Drexel U. Offers New Doctoral Program in Nursing

Drexel U., based in Philadelphia, announced its Drexel U. Online will off a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

Its College of Nursing and Health Professions will offer four tracks to the DrNP-- practitioner, educator, clinical scientist, and clinical executive. The program will provide "education with innovation, practical clinical research and scholarship," according to the announcement. The degree is designed to prepare post-Masters nurses for healthcare reform and to address the critical nursing faculty shortage nationwide.

The program is "practice-focused," but also an academic doctorate that will require the a dissertation focused on an area of nursing practice. The practice dissertation, as it is called, is to be completed in one year. Students will also study abroad for two weeks.

There is a tuition plan for employees of health system partners. The program is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
