U. of Iowa Creates Partnership for Online Courses

The U. of Iowa, founded in 1855 in Iowa City, and Western Iowa Tech Community College, founded in 1966 in Sioux City, joined forces October 6 for a new era in education to provide bachelor degrees via on-site, online and distance education courses. Students will be able to earn bachelor's degrees in nursing, general studies, business and technical fields.

According to Sally Mason, president, U. of Iowa, and Robert Dunker, president WITCC, "We live in transformative times. Our economy--on local, regional, national and international levels--is undergoing a revolution."

Writing in the Sioux City Journal yesterday, they said, "Through this agreement, Western Iowans are freed from geographical constraints that may prevent them from pursuing a University of Iowa degree."

Students in the Sioux City area with associate degrees will be able to complete their degrees while remaining on the Western Iowa Tech campus. For more info see http://www.uiowa.edu or http://www.witcc.edu/ .
