Sacred Heart U. To Offer Nursing and Business Degrees Online

One of the largest Catholic universities in New England announced it will begin offering two of its well-known programs online. Sacred Heart U., located in Fairfield, Connecticut, is offering these degrees online "as an alternative to its traditional, campus-based offerings" the university announced this month.

“Extending our programs online is a very important strategic initiative for Sacred Heart University,” said Anthony J. Cernera, president. “Expanding our institutional reach through the use of online education allows us to serve more students with in-demand professional degrees that are consistent with our mission.”

Two degrees will be an RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). The degrees are designed "to help certified RNs develop their professional skills, move into more specialized roles and increase their value to employers."

In addition, Sacred Heart's John F. Welch College of Business--named for GE’s former Chairman and CEO, Jack Welch--will provide its MBA program online. The program focuses on multidisciplinary assignments and intensive classes designed to develop "cross-functional" skills.

“The MBA program is designed to incorporate real-world experience and challenges and respond to today's volatile business environment,” said John Petillo, dean. “Our curriculum proactively prepares students for the ever changing global business environment with an integrated core that is taught simultaneously in a 'business process' approach.”

The university notes that the introduction of these online programs "continues Sacred Heart University’s commitment to providing values-based education in ways that meet the needs of today’s student."
