Top Values in Online Colleges

A web site that reviews online colleges called GetEducated.com has released its “Top 28 Best Values in Online Colleges” that ranks online bachelor degrees in psychology, human services and social services for cost and credibility. The online college “affordability rankings” were based on a survey of 41 regionally accredited universities that offer bachelor's degrees via distance learning.

According to GetEducation.com, the average cost for a distance learning bachelor's in psychology or a human services career came in at $40,676. But, Colorado State University-Pueblo ranked number one for affordability in its distance bachelor's degrees in social science and sociology. Its cost is about $18,000 for a four-year degree.

Florida State University’s online bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary social sciences ranked number two as the most affordable option for Florida residents. Price: $20,000 for in-state students, more for out-of-state students.

Adams State College of Colorado rated number three with tuition about $20,000 for all online students. Other colleges on the affordability list include: Fort Hays State University in Kansas, Thomas Edison State College in New Jersey, Empire State College (SUNY) in New York, Northwestern State University in Louisiana, Troy University in Alabama, Charter Oak State College in Connecticut and Columbia College of Missouri. All but Columbia are public institutions.

"Online education is all about making education accessible, especially for working adults in need of a career education," according to Vicky Phillips, founder of GetEducated.com which maintains a directory of online colleges. "College cost is a huge inhibiting factor for many Americans."
