Former GE Chief Invests in Online Ed

Jack Welch, retired head of the General Electric Co., is investing more than $2 million in Chancellor University based in Cleveland, Ohio, to begin an online MBA program named The Jack Welch Management Institute. A 12-course curriculum will be offered as well as a new online master of management. Undergraduate degrees will be added.

"We're trying to do something really different and exciting with this school," Welch said about the new online program. "We want to reach a lot of people, more than you can just reach in one class or at one school, with a management philosophy and set of practices we really believe in."

Welch has been a visiting lecturer at MIT's Sloan School of Management and is the author of two bestsellers, Winning and Jack: Straight from the Gut. For the start date of the new online courses and those at Chancellor's Cleveland campus, see http://www.jwmi.com/
